Las creadoras Rosario Monteverde y Magdalena Rodríguez llevan ganados múltiples premios mundiales por otras iniciativas.

A pocos meses de lanzar su app en Latinoamérica, GPSGAY festeja su segundo reconocimiento internacional, esta vez obtenido en el marco de la novena edición de los Mobile Premier Awards, premios de referencia de todas las aplicaciones móviles a nivel mundial.

En total unos 1.000 asistentes pasaron una emocionante velada en la que los 16 desarrolladores de todo el mundo presentaron su app ante el jurado. Los ganadores se han repartido en tres categorías: Best Audience Award, a la app más votada por el público fue GPSGAY; Best App Award, a la mejor app, que ha reconocido a Fansino; y el Big Impact Award, a la aplicación que supone un mayor impacto en la vida de las personas, para mTriage.

GPSGAY es una plataforma gratuita, online y móvil orientada a brindar productos y servicios para la comunidad gay con una propuesta de valor única ya que además de ser una red social y guía de entretenimiento para la comunidad lGBT, incluye chats, eventos, noticias y películas en streaming para su público Disponible para iPhone y Android.

Actualmente cuenta con más de 200.000 usuarios registrados en la plataforma y ya se aproximan a los 250.000 seguidores en Facebook. . Si bien la mayoría de los usuarios siguen estando en México y Colombia, en Argentina ya con 3 meses de vida, el número de usuarios creció rápidamente y hoy ya son más de 20.000. Recientemente ha desembarcado en el gigante mercado brasilero, un kick off con excelentes resultados. La app acaba de ser lanzada en Brasil y ya está rankeando primero en el índice de descargas.

Si bien existen diversas aplicaciones para el público gay, la mayoría están enfocadas específicamente en encontrar pareja o para encuentros sexuales, sobre todo para el público gay masculino. “La comunidad gay tiene intereses más profundos que simplemente tener una cita“, sostiene una de las creadoras de la aplicación, Magdalena Rodríguez. El espíritu es brindar un espacio para el intercambio entre pares, donde el vínculo se da por un estilo de vida e intereses comunes.

EL MERCADO GAY

El mercado gay es un mercado sumamente desatendido, especialmente en América Latina, en donde hay una carencia muy grande de información y de servicios especialmente pensados para satisfacer a este segmento. Es, sin embargo, un mercado con un enorme potencial, ya que gasta un 40% más que el mercado heterosexual. En Argentina, según un estudio realizado por Out Now Consulting, los consumidores gay gastan más de USD 4 millones al año en viajes y turismo, mientras que en México, USD 8 millones y en Brasil más de USD20 millones. GPSGAY funciona parecido a Facebook, ya permite interactuar con otros usuarios, compartir fotos, videos y mensajes. Los usuarios, a su vez, pueden libremente subir y compartir información acerca de eventos, fiestas, lugares. Por su parte, la plataforma se encarga de curar estos contenidos procurando su veracidad. Se trata de un espacio amigable y confidencial, al que sólo se accede bajo registro. “Mientras exista miedo a la discriminación, la gente va a necesitar un espacio seguro y libre de discriminación, en donde puedan ser sí mismos e interactuar libremente con los miembros de la comunidad“, señalan sus fundadoras.

DOS URUGUAYAS TALENTOSAS

GPSGAY fue  desarrollada por dos uruguayas: la Ing. en Sistemas y Master en Gerencia de Empresas Tecnológicas Rosario Monteverde (32) y la Lic. en Diseño Gráfico Magdalena Rodríguez (33), que integra el Directorio de la Cámara Uruguaya de Tecnologías de la Información.
Ambas son socias fundadoras de la empresa PRO Internacional http://www.prointernacional.com que es una empresa de Servicios Web, exitosamente graduada de la incubadora de empresas Ingenio en el año 2009. La compañía lleva más de 500 sitios web desarrollados para clientes en 15 países y ha recibido premios y reconocimientos de carácter mundial por sus trabajos y su modelo de negocios.  En el año 2009 ganaron el Premio Mundial de Cartier a Mujeres Emprendedoras “Women’s Initiative Award”, identificándose como la mejor iniciativa Femenina de América Latina y el Caribe:
Fueron 2 veces galardonadas con el premio a las Mujeres Emprendedoras, que otorga el MIEM (premio 8M, en Uruguay).
Recientemente GPSGAY resultó seleccionada para representar a Uruguay en el Desafío Intel Latinoamérica.

Las fundadoras son pareja hace 10 años, por lo que conocen el mercado gay desde adentro. Son creadoras del portal de Gays y Lesbianas de Uruguay, un sitio web sin fines de lucro que crearon como un espacio de encuentro para la comunidad gay uruguaya, que se convirtió en el mayor portal gay del país.
