Un 26,2% de los niños de entre 0 y 4 años es pobre en la Argentina, frente al 10,8% de la población general. Así lo evidencia un informe de CIPPEC.
“La primera infancia es una etapa clave, que impacta sobre el desarrollo emocional, físico e intelectual de las personas”, afirmó Fabián Repetto, director del Programa de Protección Social de CIPPEC.
“El punto que requiere especial atención es el nutricional: 46% de los niños de hasta seis meses no reciben lactancia materna exclusiva”, indicó Carolina Aulicino, coordinadora del Programa de Protección Social de CIPPEC.
El 34,1% de los niños argentinos entre 6 meses y 2 años tienen anemia, según el estudio.
Según los datos recabados por CIPPEC, un 86% de los niños de 0 a 4 años realizó un control pediátrico en los últimos seis meses.
La cobertura en salud también es amplia: en 2011, 7 de cada 10 niños y adolescentes estaban cubiertos. Si bien la tasa de mortalidad infantil se redujo 58% a nivel nacional entre 1990 y 2013, un 61,8% de las defunciones se producen por causas evitables.
Acceso y calidad desiguales en cuidado y educación
“La educación inicial y los centros de cuidado son clave para alcanzar un desarrollo infantil integral”, explicó Cecilia Veleda, investigadora principal del Programa de Educación de CIPPEC. Quienes participan en programas de primera infancia tienen mejores logros de aprendizaje, repiten y abandonan menos.
Sin embargo, solo el 32% de los niños de 0 a 4 años acceden a servicios educativos y de cuidado. Entre los niños de 45 días y 2 años la cobertura es de apenas el 11%. Los datos también muestran que existe una gran desigualdad socioeconómica en el acceso: asiste a los centros un 20,7% de los niños del quintil más pobre frente al 52,1% de los niños del quintil más rico.
