Los argentinos son los más nacionalistas a la hora de comer y eso lo podemos concluir gracias a la encuesta realizada por Groupon a un total de 4.426 personas en Argentina, Chile, México, Brasil y Colombia. A la hora de elegir el plato del día, en comparación con el resto de los países, los argentinos prefieren evitar las excentricidades culinarias y son quienes más valoran su comida típica tradicional, en especial las carnes asadas. Además, son los más dispuestos a dividir la cuenta en partes iguales, sin importar el consumo de cada comensal y, llamativamente, los más tolerantes a las altas esperas para conseguir una mesa en su restaurant favorito.

Sobre gustos…

Un 86% de los argentinos declaró que no se animaría a probar comidas exóticas como canguro, serpiente o insectos, ocupando de esta manera el segundo lugar en el podio regional por detrás de los encuestados brasileños, que contestaron en igual sentido en un 89%. Sin embargo, la proporción parece variar según el sexo: mientras un 22% de los encuestados varones ya probó o estaría dispuesto a probar alguno de esos “manjares”, en el caso de las mujeres argentinas el porcentaje asciende a sólo un 11%. Una interesante coincidencia es que los cinco países participantes declararon que dentro de los alimentos exóticos listados, los dos que más estarían dispuestos a probar son el tiburón y las ancas de rana.

Mientras que los cinco países eligen su comida típica nacional como la preferida por sobre las demás, los argentinos son por lejos quienes lo hacen en mayor proporción: un (48%), seguidos por los mexicanos (43%), brasileros (42%), colombianos (31%) y chilenos (26%). Sin embargo, aquí nuevamente se da una distinción entre sexos, ya que los hombres presentan una predisposición mucho más marcada que las mujeres por la comida local (56% los hombres vs. 45% las mujeres).

En lo que sí coinciden todos los países es en resaltar a la comida italiana como la segunda opción favorita, sobre todos los demás tipos de comidas étnicas listadas.

Además, todos los países encuestados menos Colombia eligieron al sushi como el segundo plato favorito.

Comer afuera

A la hora de expresar sus preferencias en relación a la ocasión de consumo, un 84% de los argentinos manifestó que prefiere salir a comer afuera por sobre la comodidad del sedentario pero más económico ‘’delivery’’ (16%). Consultados acerca de la frecuencia de las salidas a comer afuera, la mayor parte de los encuestados (40%) manifestó hacerlo “algunas veces al mes”, mientras que el 26% dijo hacerlo “una vez por semana”. Sólo un 1% de los argentinos sale a comer afuera diariamente y un 8% adicional lo hace “varias veces a la semana”. La suma entre ambos es muy inferior a la del resto de la región: 38% los colombianos, 37% los mexicanos, 29% los chilenos y 27% los brasileños.

Otro dato de interés en este apartado es que los argentinos no parecen ser tan ansiosos como se cree en el imaginario popular: un 32% se mostró dispuesto a esperar por una mesa en su restaurant favorito hasta media hora, en comparación con un 32% los brasileños, un 29% los chilenos, un 27% los colombianos y un 23% los mexicanos.

A la hora de planificar un festejo, los “desafortunados” chilenos son quienes más suelen tener que invertir en una salida para dos, con un promedio de US$53. Los siguen los mexicanos (US$50), los argentinos (US$46), los brasileños (US$40) y los colombianos (US$35).

Pero cuando de pagar la cuenta se trata, los argentinos resultaron ser los más equitativos de la región: el 86% prefiere dividirla entre todos los comensales por partes iguales sin importar el consumo individual, un número considerablemente más alto que el 78% de los mexicanos, 79% de los chilenos, 70% de los colombianos y muy lejos del 21% de los brasileños, quienes fueron el único país de la región en expresarse en mayoría a favor de que cada comensal cubriera su propio consumo. Un porcentaje mayor de hombres se mostró propenso a invitar a toda la mesa, comparado con las mujeres (10% vs 6%).
